Now that summer has hit, the importance of hydration is crucial for overall health and wellbeing. Why is it so important? Hydration is what keeps every cell in your body to do the work it needs like maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. I have rounded up the 6 best tips to stay hydrated this summer below!

  1. Eat foods with high water content!
    Whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables are actually still living and contain high amounts of hydration as opposed to processed foods that have little to no water content. Stick to foods like melons, carrots, celery sticks, berries, and apples for beach snacks and picnics 🙂 They are also high in electrolytes that are often forgotten when you are active or in the sun.
  2. Drink smoothies for breakfast
    Smoothies are also quite hydrating since you are using loads of fruit and greens mentioned above. This is also a great to-go option if you are running late. You will already feel accomplished by bringing your breakfast with you for work or a meeting. My favorite is organic kale, blueberries, banana, almond milk, almond butter, flax seeds and hemp seeds! Adding healthy seeds and fats help keep you fuller, longer!
  3. Eat more green salads
    Greens like lettuce, baby kale, and romaine all are 94% water which makes your meal an instant hydro-meal. Adding veggies, healthy clean protein, and a whole grain, you’ll stay hydrated in that summer heat.
  4. Don’t forget your reusable water bottle
    Everyone is talking about reducing waste and this is one of the easiest ways to reduce waste while staying hydrated. I personally LOVE this one since it keeps it cold for hours. You are more likely to make better decisions when out and about as well.
  5. Flavor your water with fruits, vegetables, and herbs instead of soda
    Instead of lemonade or soda, try an ice cold water filled with flavor from chopped strawberries and basil or lemon and cucumber! Have a mango pit? Add this to a water jug for a few hours in the fridge. The options are endless and can become fun to mix flavors.
  6. Remember to drink water between caffeine and alcohol
    If you are out with friends or family, it can become harder to remember to drink water. I always recommend drinking water between caffeine or alcohol. Both of these are dehydrating for the body so adding more hydration between is key.

    For example, if you are going to drink a cup of coffee, drink a glass of water before and after. If you are going out at night, grab water between drinks instead of going straight for another one.
